Why it disappears from “This PC” is a mystery. Did this solve your problem? Sounds like an issue with the SONY driver to me.

Check if it helps. The diagnostic says I have the latest driver. The magic location happened to be the C: I also have a laptop running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, however I didn’t have this problem on that system. In reply to WillardAnderson’s post on April 11, Device manager says TEAC is working properly but it isn’t. Windows 7 Hardware Compatibility.
If still says the disk needs to be formatted even though I know it has files on it. The Hardware Troubleshooter is an automated tool which will check the hardware connected to the computer for any known issues with it and provides the details and on how to fix them.

I have checked this device compatibility fd-055pub Windows 7, and I cannot find any information about this device. I’m out of ideas, any help would be appreciated. Restart your computer and it will reinstall the default driver.
How satisfied are you with this response? I’ve tried re-booting with the drive plugged in, and with blank and not blank disk inserted.
